Add all ingredients to a blender with enough water to create a thick but smooth, drinkable liquid. Pour into 2-4 tall glasses and drink on up!
Easy-peasy recipe for all you apple cinnamon lovers! Healthy smoothie recipe uses your fave greens, applesauce, cinnamon and even some sour rhubarb :)
But here are some variations for you to tinker with, if you like:
While you can use ANY green for this recipe, also realize that your greens can be Raw OR Cooked. If you happen to have Hostas (or other wild greens like Lambs Quarter, Wild Lettuce, Sorrel, etc.), you can steam them and add 2 cups to the blender. I like to add a handful of Mallow leaves (cooked or raw) for extra slipperiness. Note that young Hosta leaves are fine to eat raw however older leaves get tough, so cooking them is the way to go.
No need to peel any apples when you can open a jar and add in applesauce, already pureed! However, you can use 2-4 (peeled if you like) cored and chopped (raw or cooked) apples instead. Go for a sweeter variety like Red Delicious or Pink Lady, to offset the sourness of the rhubarb.
If you do find the rhubarb to yield a too sour-tasting smoothie, simply add in more applesauce and/or another 1/2-1 scoop protein powder. Adding in a few TBsp of cocoa powder is another option.
As always, Enjoy :)
